For those of you who are fans of the previous MacBook Air, there is a new bull in town called the new Apple Mac Book Air (2009) that boasts the same sleek design, only this time around there is a lightning fast processor installed with a new graphics card and 128 GB solid state drive. If you do not mind the hefty price tag that hovers around $2500, the MacBook Air is a sound investment with ultra portability with its incredibly thin design and powerful graphics
Ultra Sleek Design
The MacBook Air is probably one of the thinnest notebooks available on the market measuring just 0.7 inches and weighing in at just about three pounds with a 13.3 inch LED display. Although it is incredibly thin it is also incredibly full-sized with all the features of a full-size notebook contained inside the substantial aluminum casing.
When you turn on the MacBook Air, it is difficult not to notice the impressively sharp screen resolution at 1280 X 800 with LED technology that provides for efficiency and longer battery life.
Keyboard and TrackPad
- Full-Sized Keyboard Unlike other portable notebooks on the market, the MacBook Air surprises the user with a full-sized keyboard with efficient tactile feedback, which is backlit to make it user-friendly in less then favorable lighting conditions. The keyboard also offers a nifty built-in ambient light sensor that is capable of adjusting the keyboard illumination and display brightness to lighting conditions.
- Multi-Touch Trackpad: The Multi-Touch trackpad offers an enlarged design to make it finger-friendly and allows for surfing the Web effortlessly with a swipe of your fingers across the surface. Additionally, it contains a cool zoom in and zoom out feature that allows for photo viewing simply by pinching the trackpad.
Ports and Connectivity
- Fully Wireless: The wireless connectivity begins with speedy 802.11 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 plus EDR all preinstalled, however, Apple does not stop here with wireless capability. This nifty little connection allows you to wirelessly transfer all of your old data from you previous MacBook to your new MacBook Air by simply installing the Remote Disc feature contained on the old MacBook.
- Rent Movies Wirelessly: You can forget about watching DVDs! The MacBook Air is fully equipped for wireless mobile computing and allows you to rent movies wirelessly from the iTunes Store.
- Time Capsule: The days of backing up your files to multiple disks has passed with the new Time Capsule feature. MacBook has Mac OS X Leopard Time Machine installed which automatically copies your files to an external drive. Use it with Time Capsule and you have a winning combination of tools to wirelessly back up your files.
- Minimal Ports: The MacBook Air still comes equipped with only a single USB port and there is still no Express Card or memory card port, and no Ethernet port.
Performance
The MacBook Air runs on a new and improved 1.6 GHz or 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The processor was customized to fit precisely with the MacBook Air dimensions and Apple added the new 1066MHz frontside bus, an additional L2 cache, and 2 GB of DD3 Ram for optimal performance at lightning fast speeds.
The hard drive has been improved to 120 GB with an option to choose a 128 GB solid-state drive with no moving parts for enhanced functionality. There is plenty of storage, speed, and memory for using applications.
The battery is not compromised due to the extreme thinness of this cool PC. It has a life of about 4.5 hours and plenty of power.
If you do not mind the price tag, MacBook is more than adequate for your computing needs and do not forget about the extremely capable graphics processor which offers superior performance in an ultra-slim device.
